Living Hope Baptist Church

We took as the name of our congregation Living Hope because we firmly believe that Jesus Christ is the only hope we have for this life and the life to come. As it says in 1 Peter 1:3-4 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…” We want to live in this living hope and we want to share the message of this living hope in our community.

Why should we place our hope in Jesus Christ? We all know that some hopes have failed to deliver. As one contemporary writer points out, “Some expectations sputter and flop like an untied balloon. Remember the shining-armor boyfriend who became the heart breaking two-timer? The fast-track promotion that landed you in the forgotten basement cubicle? The cross-country move you made to “find yourself”? You found yourself, all right. You found yourself with higher rent and fewer friends.” This writer goes on to talk about the “if onlys” of life. “If only I could find a mate…a career…a bright red, affordable, ’65 Mustang.” Then when we find the mate or the career or the Mustang we still might feel let down. We long for something more.

How do we know that Jesus Christ will not let us down? Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10) Jesus offers life - fullness of life. What the new mate, career, or sports car could never do, Jesus says “I can.” How does he achieve this? He reconnects your soul to God. We realize deep within that something is wrong. Nothing we have seems to fill the void. The void can only be filled by a right relationship with God. Jesus connects us to God. He died for our sins, rose from the dead, and lives at the right hand of God. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Let me quote again that verse from 1 Peter 1:3-4 from a modern paraphrase: “Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand new life and have everything to live life for, including a future in heaven – and the future starts now!” (1 Peter 1:3-4 MSG).
